Ian Parton—the songwriter, musician, producer, and arranger of Go! Team—reasserts his guiding hand on his project’s fourth album, 2015’s The Scene Between. After allowing a lot of rapping and sampling on the albums following the excellent 2004 debut, Thunder Lightning Strike!, Parton has gone back to the melodic basics with catchy material such as the title track, “Waking the Jetstream,” and “Did You Know?” and sidelined the other stuff for brief interludes like “Rolodex the Seasons.” He still hires out the vocal parts, making him seem more Svengali than bleeding artiste, but the joy of “Blowtorch” renders the distinction irrelevant.
