In one sense, Fortune is the soundtrack to a silent film by Naomi Yang. But it's also Damon & Naomi’s eighth studio album, and a beautiful album it is. Eleven songs in a mere 28 minutes, it doesn't require viewing the film to enjoy the songs. They play out like many Damon & Naomi projects, with a hushed, mild sense centering on a stripped-down sound with acoustic guitar and electric piano, bass guitar, and sparingly used drums. Emotionally, these are engrossing songs and performances, touching on the loss of a parent, the powerful sway of nostalgia, and the need for eventual self-determination.
