On his turbocharged third album, K.O. seeks to redress missteps made on his criminally slept-on SR2. He also settles into his formula, a fine mix of Skhanda raps and R&B hooks. Comedy, braggadocio and social awareness are his signature traits, and they’re abundant on songs like “CR17”, where the rapper likens himself to South Africa’s current head of state; and “Better Choices”, where the fire-spitting emcee enlists Loki and long-time collaborator Ma-E for a refreshingly modern take on the “black tax” and its effects; and “Flight School”, where Sjava helps deliver an update on ancient fables with pearls of wisdom.
