New York’s SADAF embraces chaos on her debut album, testing the limits of her voice while she upends all of electronic music’s conventions. On the eerie “YOUR LOVE IS A HOSPITAL,” she coos, wails, whispers, and ululates over shards of synth and drum machine; “THINGY” pairs chirps and spoken-word musings with beats fusing drum ‘n’ bass, metal, and free jazz. “WALK ON WATER” homes in on her unsettling aesthetic with surgical precision, weaving strings and pitch-shifted synths into a lattice of shimmering dissonance.
