A storybook romance between two musicians from different bands led to marriage and a baby boy before the first Eros & The Eschaton song was written. A motorhome tour of 18 states led them to settle in Greensboro, N.C., before honing this debut album, which recalls the usual suspects of the shoegazer movement—Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine—while also bringing to mind the married couple in Yo La Tengo, who've been making a wide variety of music for more than 25 years. Should Kate Perdoni and Adam Hawkins reach that point, it'll be interesting to hear where they take things. For a debut, Home Address for Civil War is self-assured but also hard to gauge, since every band that overloads on distorted layers of instrumentation should be able to wrestle a few solid ideas. "20 Different Days," "Carry the Water," and "Over and Over" (with a church-organ intro) serve as that introduction. The man behind the song title "Terence McKenna" has been a tipping point for many groups wishing to further their psychedelic pedigree, but only time will tell if these influences will lead to even deeper ones.
