Eon of Obscenity

Eon of Obscenity

Positioned at the vanguard of a new wave of brutal death metal bands, Stabbing has a secret weapon that their peers do not. In a subgenre even more male-dominated than metal in general, the Texas-based death dealers are led by Bridget Lynch, a woman who has one of the most inhuman voices in music, regardless of gender. Stabbing’s second album, Eon of Obscenity, is an unforgiving whirlwind of blastbeats, thudding riffs, and harmonic squeals punctuated by lyrics in which Lynch inverts death metal’s casual misogyny and men become the prey of female killers. Even the album’s sole guest shot is a tribute to Lynch’s prowess: On “Nauseating Composition,” she’s joined by Suffocation vocalist Ricky Myers, who she filled in for on several of the NYC death metal legends’ shows in 2023.
