You can thank the Internet for bringing about this version of the album. As its subtitle (Formerly "Country on the Click") suggests, that album had been readied for release when a mix escaped to the Internet that prompted leader Mark E. Smith to partially re-record, remix, and resequence the album. This U.S version is slightly different from the U.K. edition. Such is the tortured life of the hardcore Fall fanatic. This is the Ben Pritchard/Jim Watts/Dave Milner version of the group, along with Smith's wife Elena Poulou on keyboards. They further evolve The Fall with a swirling sound that's smoother in tone if not execution. "Green Eyed Loco Man" works into a psychedelic tizzy. "Mountain" adds a country vibe while Smith tells a shaggy-dog story that insists "Dolly Parton and Lord Byron, they said patriotism is the last refuge" and concludes "water is flowing down the mountain, but a tree is blocking the water flowing." "Sparta 2XX" is an alternate version of the uber-catchy "Theme from Sparta F.C.," and "Recover Kit #2" is an alternate version of "Recovery Kit." The original versions can be found on the U.K. edition of the album.
