There’s a plangent dreaminess to this 1971 album. The Moody Blues perfected a tearstained melodic wash of Mellotron strings, with plaintive harmonies that add emotive tugs to the melodies (particularly on the mournfully Gallic “Our Guessing Game” and the folky “You Can Never Go Home”). The antithesis is the sprightly “After You Came,” which rocks with a winsome giddiness. It's matched by the gleeful, two-part “The Story in Your Eyes”—one half is hazy, the other rowdy.
