From the opening blast of the title track, it’s easy to discern Frontierer’s motives on Ultraviolet Parasite: pushing mathcore to its absolute limits. In snagging the baton first express-mailed to victory by the likes of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge, this Scottish/American crew absolutely destroy everything in sight on their fourth album. “Wool Glasses” and “Our Mainframe Earache” are maxed-out exercises in abrasiveness and dizzying guitar acrobatics while “Digesting the Canal Burial”—whatever that means—is whiplash and insanity multiplied by static and skull trauma. On “Ions & Oxygen Rockets,” they’re joined by fellow noise enthusiast Tony Wolski of The Armed.
