It’s not enough for Nick Cave to be one of the most influential figures in modern rock music, apparently. The multi-hyphenate has helped turn his 2009 novel, The Death of Bunny Munro, into a television miniseries. What’s more, Cave has tasked himself with providing the brooding score for the show, with assistance from his longtime bandmate and collaborator Warren Ellis. Fans of Cave’s work with The Bad Seeds will find plenty to enjoy here, from the post-industrial sludge-rock of the theme song to the weeping strings and striking piano notes that perfectly accent the terrifyingly alluring delivery from the Australian legend. While Cave and Ellis are no strangers to score work, having created a number of memorable soundtracks over the years, this latest effort is a particularly impressive feather in their shared cap. Arriving just weeks after the triumphant Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds concert album Live God, The Death of Bunny Munro and its predecessor showcase the multifaceted brilliance of Cave, Ellis, and their frequent collaborators.
