

Atlanta singer Cody ChesnuTT perfects his funky throwback style on the silky R&B and soul of his fourth album. Both the ’70s-style soul jam “She Ran Away” and the rhythmic Afrobeat cut “Africa the Future” are powered by joyful electric guitars and festooned with ChesnuTT’s classy coos. But there are less mellow moments, too; the mournful "Bullets in the Street and Blood,” featuring Raphael Saadiq, examines the scars worn by urban families affected by a destructive cycle of violence.
