Amelia Murray, a.k.a Fazerdaze, makes indie pop sound effortless. Morningside, a reference to her Auckland suburb, shows a quiet confidence. Shades of Seam, Pixies, and Jesus and Mary Chain bleed through the gauzy, echoed vocals filled with crushing lines about self-doubt (“Shoulders,” “Misread”). As the tempo accelerates, so does the brightness—“Last to Sleep” and “Lucky Girl” are sublime dream pop. Morningside is a solid companion for times when you just want to be alone with your thoughts.
