Maybe It's Me...

There are gossipy reasons to listen to the third album from Pontiac, Michigan-born DDG, the high school valedictorian turned YouTuber turned rapper, and Maybe It’s Me… gets to those right away. (“Hardest thing I ever did was fall in love with a famous bitch,” he raps on intro track “Famous.”) More interesting are the moments when he lets down his guard and gets frank about what it’s actually like to be in the public eye at this very moment. On the wavy “This Summer” he can’t help but compare his streaming stats to Drake’s, and on “Hard on Myself,” a screenshot of his texts leaks while he’s mourning the loss of his brother. You can also take the opportunity to sharpen your Gen Z slang (like on “Rizz,” when he calls his haters “NPCs”).
