Moving beyond metalcore’s limitations, Motionless in White inject their sophomore album, Infamous, with pungent doses of industrial, goth, and prog-rock. This time out, frontman Chris “Motionless” Cerulli matches his throat-wrenching harsh vocals with more confident clean singing as the band de-emphasize breakdowns in favor of synth textures and lead guitar fireworks. MIW’s lyrics seethe with rage, blasphemy, and twisted humor, as tracks like “Devil’s Night,” “The Divine Infection,” and “If It’s Dead, We’ll Kill It” make clear. Not since Marilyn Manson’s ‘90s heyday has a band reveled in the horrific with such abandoned delight.
