In On the Kill Taker

In On the Kill Taker

Fugazi’s third album contains some of the heaviest, fiercest agit-punk strikes in their canon: “Facet Squared” sets the LP in motion on a marauding noise-rock groove that rumbles like boulders rolling down the side of a mountain; “Smallpox Champion” is a seething indictment of American colonialism set to contorted, distorted riffs. But there are surprisingly playful touches, like the handclapped backbeat and surf-guitar squiggles coursing through the manic “Public Witness Program,” and the stutter-funk tribute to the patron saint of uncompromising DIY artistry, “Cassavetes.”
