Helado Tropical

Helado Tropical

"A uniquely balanced, cohesive collab from the indie-pop pair. While so much of Latin music seems defined by specific, even regional genres, the diaspora also includes the work of singular artists, like Helado Negro and Reyna Tropical, who defy the limits of easy categorization. A portmanteau of their monikers, Helado Tropica offers a plethora of subdued sounds that immerse and compel within each song. Beginning with the surrealistic chill of “Sensación,” they duet with an innate sense of cohesion scarcely found in such collaborations. On the comparatively more rhythmic though still reserved single “Tocando,” the emotional resonance becomes more pronounced via their vocal deliveries. As the short album progresses, they move gracefully through the pop ambient affirmations of “El Tiempo” and “Fluye,” all the while finding an apparent balance where neither artist seems inclined to dwarf the other. Of course, aspects of their respective solo projects are present throughout, ensuring that fans have plenty to grasp all the way through the hazy, hypnotic closer, “Un Calor.”"
