Who Do You Think You Are?
Boston groove machine Lake Street Dive had so much fun recording 2018's Free Yourself Up that some of the songs didn’t make the album. This EP gives those songs a forever home. What you’ll hear is a band confident in its vintage rock and soul. Guitars hum with reverb while Rachael Price snaps necks with her conservatory-trained voice. Peep the heightened choral touches on “Young Boy” and “Jameson.” “Angioplast” is part Queen riff, part Rupert Holmes yacht-rock two-stepper. The Stax-style feel of “Who Do You Think You Are?” and “Darryl” puts them in the company of bands like Fitz and the Tantrums and Alabama Shakes. The addition of keyboardist Akie Bermiss also deepens the funk foundation.
