10 Songs, 38 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Blessed with a commanding voice and presence, Texas singer-songwriter MAJOR. stands out in a crowded R&B field on his debut album. The Berklee College of Music alum’s outlook is unfailingly positive, while his ability to embrace R&B, gospel, dance, even Latin (and kill it!) is a testament to his talent. “I’ll Keep My Faith” and “Even More” are stirring, intimate vocal showcases. Trap snares and hi-hats on “Better With You in It” and “Love Crazy” don’t disturb the groove. Even the acoustic songs—“Street Lights” is a fun handclaps-and-guitar hootenanny that’s begging for an Avicii/Aloe Blacc “Wake Me Up” treatment—show his crossover potential. Even More is a musical shot of optimism, in both method and message, for pessimistic times.
