While fans of Winterpills' jangly, autumnal blend of folk-rock and indie pop might not be surprised to see tunes by Nick Drake and The Go-Betweens turn up, covers of Buddy Holly and XTC seem more revelatory in this context. The transformation of Holly's "Learning the Game" and XTC's "Train Running Low on Soul Coal" (among others) into quiet little marvels of bedroom melancholy speaks volumes about Winterpills' own sonic skills. Echolalia began as a side project for singer/guitarist Philip Price and singer/keyboardist Flora Reed while the rest of the band were busy, so the version of Winterpills heard here is as intriguingly stripped down as the songs.
