David Bowie Narrates Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf
Smack of the middle of his wild Berlin period, Bowie took time out from party-hopping with Lou and Iggy to make, of all things, a children's album. Peter and the Wolf is a straightforward rendition of Prokofiev's classic, conducted by the legendary Eugene Ormandy. Bowie's narration starts out fairly reserved, but he becomes more playful with the characters as he goes along. By the time the story gets to the squabble between Bird and Wolf, he's clearly having as much fun as we are.
