On her debut EP, Memorabilia, Lagos-originating singer-songwriter and producer Efue knows how to set the mood. Across reverb-drenched opener “Cloudy,” she’s driven by yearning, singing, “Counting all the days and nights it’s taking you to get here to me/Are you ever gonna come back to me?” Ominous bass and thumping kicks bolster “On the Floor,” Efue articulating the all-too-common experience of being stuck in a toxic relationship with a manipulative partner. On a breezier note, “History” reflects personal growth and the drive to conquer fear and uncertainty. By the time we’ve reached “Beauty and the Beat,” she’s celebrating her practice, capping off a short but impactful introduction to an artist who is happiest in her work. “Never really wanted another thing,” she sings. “Only what the angels gave to me/Make I sing my song and do my bit.”
