Brooklyn drill practitioner Fivio Foreign parlayed his viral 2019 breakout “Big Drip” into hip-hop stardom, something accomplished in part due to his willingness to evolve within and, as needed, reach past the popular subgenre. On Still Standing, his most substantial outing since 2024’s Pain & Love 2, he exhibits his aptitude as a rapper while collaborating with several others of note. From the near-cinematic title track through to his defiantly confessional closer, “Entered The Chat Freestyle,” he draws upon life experiences and recent tribulations in order to more sturdily stand on business. At times unpredictable, he pivots to more of an Afrobeats mode alongside Jamaican singer Byron Messia on “Bad for Me” and boldly revisits his original win on the self-interpolation “Big Drip 2.0.” His guests from the wider drill community, Polo G and Lil Tjay, add their own dextrous signatures to “Caution” and the aptly named “Sexy,” respectively, though Trey Songz’s “Pain In My Eyes” feature gives Foreign an added R&B edge.
