Boiler Room: Jamie xx b2b Caribou in London, Oct 11, 2011 (DJ Mix)

One beautiful thing about this Boiler Room set from 2011—aside from its rainbow of global sounds that includes Cameroonian composer Francis Bebey and French jazz pianist Jacques Loussier—is the way it serves as a subtle mosaic of Jamie xx and Caribou’s careers to date. Jamie Smith, still then relatively new on the scene, plays his standout remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s “I’m New Here”—a highlight from the pair's 2011 team-up We’re New Here, which helped cement the young Brit’s reputation as an exceptional remixer and producer. Later on, he plays a Greg Wilson edit of The xx’s “Night Time,” nodding to the indie-pop group that put him on the map as a teenager. Caribou’s Dan Snaith was more established at this point in time, having performed as Manitoba and Caribou since the early 2000s, but spends a good chunk of time teasing his then-emerging dance-floor moniker Daphni by playing “Yes I Know” and “Springs,” two songs that wouldn’t be released until Daphni's Jiaolong album came out the following year.
