Colin James pays tribute to his heroes with this swinging set of roadhouse blues. While the song selection nods to Freddy King, Jimmy Reed, and Junior Wells, the performances depend as much on James’ loose, swampy feel as they do the classic riffs. In “Boogie Funk,” he rips out rocket-powered leads, but it’s the gentle Southern soul ballads that command attention.
