Still one of the most restlessly original albums ever released on a Christian label, Burlap to Cashmere’s debut married a folkie’s sense of storytelling with blazing bursts of rhythmic guitar, heavily indebted to Latin and Greek traditions. And while the lyrics lean more toward narrative than straightforward songs of devotion, there’s no mistaking the heavy saturation of Scripture in the big radio hit “Basic Instructions,” nor in the forward-thinking exhortations of “Treasures in Heaven.”
