Co-signed by the esteemed likes of Tyler, The Creator and SZA, R&B hopeful nomi. ascended in what feels like a relatively short time. Still, with singles like “badman” and “raindance”—both of which appeared on 2026’s sweet talk EP—it was clear from the quality that the North Carolina native had been building her artistic identity below the radar. For her debut project, this wolf may cry, the promising young singer presents a clearer picture of herself with lilting, enveloping vocals served over subtly off-kilter production. Even with its relatively modest runtime, the album proves an immersive, at times intense listening experience as songs like “digital dash” and “what u want” subdue, soothe, and satisfy. She practically floats through the maximalist blur of “i was right (haha)” while commanding the sturdier grooves of “sweet talk” and “right/left.” Her ability to maneuver in this way makes the acoustic neo-soul charms of “carry me” and “r u?” resonate as genuinely as the two-step garage chill of “back seat.”
