No Hay Ángeles Aquí

Now that corridos and rap have become so intricately intertwined, both thematically and otherwise, Mexican artists freely and credibly cross between genre spaces. This state of affairs bodes well for Victor Mendivil, a Hermosillo-hailing rapper whose 2025 full-length debut, Tutankamon, featured the likes of Natanael Cano, Luis R Conriquez, and Fenix Flexin. For his sophomore outing, No Hay Ángeles Aquí, he further expands the scope of his guest list to include Latin hitmakers Anuel AA and Tito Double P, among others, while proving one of música mexicana’s most versatile contemporary MCs. Though he fares reliably well over trap and drill productions like the opener, “Goldi,” he seems magnetically drawn to the reggaefied rhythms of “Niña Mafia” and the Omar Camacho-aided “FES.” He indulges a reggaetón urge on “La Manera” with Snow Tha Product and with Cris MJ and FloyyMenor via the even more progressive perreo of “3 PA’ 3.” Such adventurous musical choices multiply over the course of the album, be that on the bright and bubbly “Nunca Pierdo” or the rugged “Mira Como Vengo” with Ovi and Natanael Cano. Even without such high-profile features, Mendivil is a tenacious lyricist on his own, carrying on and self-medicating through the vengeful vows of “Lindsay Lohan” and the boom-bap intimidations of “La Casa del Terror.” As for lighter expressions of his skill set, he conjures romantic escapades for the poppy and tropical “Vámonos” and luxuriates in his laidback lifestyle on “Cereza.” Our Favorite Track: Repeat collaborator Oscar Maydon turns up to turn up with Mendivil on “Bling Bling,” its beat flipping between reggaetón and hip-hop.
