EG.0

EG.0

EG.0, the Ellie Goulding project formerly referred to as a “Side B,” gains four new versions of two familiar songs following a late-stage upgrade in status to standalone release. Originally conceived as an addendum to 2020’s Brightest Blue—as a home for the trap-pop singles released across the previous two years that belonged to the era, if not the overall sound of the album—the bulk of EG.0 will already be well known to anyone who listened to that record from top to bottom. For those starting fresh, there’s much to discover—from soaring dance-pop anthem “Sixteen,” a Fred again..-produced co-write with RAYE, to the playground-chant-inspired hook anchoring “Hate Me.” Goulding swaps out with Juice WRLD on the solo version of the latter track and Swae Lee on 2018 hit “Close to Me,” filling in over their respective flows with sing-rap verses of her own. She offers a more inventive spin on the same material with the acoustic arrangements, leaving space for fresh vocal flourishes and refurbished instrumentation that thoroughly alters the original vibe.
