From the Toolkit of Lovers

Brian Leeds doesn’t make music for the short-form economy. Under his Loidis alias, the Kansas City producer (best known as Huerco S.) returns with From the Toolkit of Lovers, a sprawling, 110-minute triple LP showcasing the minimal, dubby, and heady corners of electronic music. Made with DJs and long blends in mind, the 12-track project thrives on micro-textural shifts that reward deep, immersive listening—even the stealthy pause of a soft kick drum can feel like floating in midair. The album travels across distinct sonic environments, from the dark, aquatic current of “A Fine Line” and balmy effervescence of “Council Grove” into the film-noir haze of “Copy Plot,” after-hours warehouse techno fashioned from a brisk, dubby groove and blunted metallic percussion. It all leads to the haunting finale, “I Would Be Glad on It,” where cold, wistful pads leave you stepping outside said warehouse into the gray morning air.
