Just Jayne combines the musical talents of three Music Row songwriters for a harmony-forward vocal group in the vein of fellow trio Pistol Annies and beloved quartet Little Big Town. On this debut EP, the trio composed of Taylor Edwards, Jillian Steele, and Rachel Wiggins teams up with an A-list roster of fellow writers—Meghan Trainor, Kid Harpoon, and Tyler Johnson are among their collaborators—for seven bright, peppy country-pop tunes. Songs like opener “White Picket Fence” and “What’s His Name” are infectiously melodic, with playful, often funny lyrics to match. (And don’t let the title “Climate Change” fool you—the trio borrows images of impending ecological collapse to describe a will-they/won’t-they romance.) “Emergency Contact” and “Bad Day” let the group indulge in more downcast feelings, though it’s hard not to hear ease in their meticulously crafted three-part harmonies.
