Marcriá

Marcriá

A tropical, shapeshifting album from the Puerto Rican artist. Puerto Rican singer RaiNao proved one of the more unique artists on the Rimas Entertainment roster with CAPICÚ, a 2024 album that traversed a variety of electronic music forms in unique fashion. That shapeshifting quality carries through into her follow-up Marcriá, albeit in its own way. After the atmospheric perreo of “teaser” and the alt-pop of “GRIS,” she pivots to a decidedly more tropical mode. Some of these Caribbean-evoking tracks come from collaborations with those well-versed in such sounds, with Afro-Cuban all-star Omara Portuondo joining for “dandovueltas…” and Cultura Profética adding both reggae and bossa nova tactics to “dame la verde.” As much as the folkloric percussion of El Laberinto del Coco enhances the wondrously nervous “mariposas en el estómago,” RaiNao does more than fine on her own. From the salsa delights of “(toco madera y te beso)” to the polyrhythmic and clubby “Chamberi,” her approach dazzles as much as it transfixes.
