A sensational, genre-hopping set from the Venezuelan brotherhood. A lot has happened over the past decade for Venezuelan duo Mau y Ricky, the siblings ascending to global Latin pop stardom while steadily honing and shaping their sound with each new release. Though the title Ricky y Mau suggests a creative swap of some sort, their full-length follow-up to 2024’s Hotel Caracas finds the pair operating with the same creative, collaborative drive that got them to this point in their hit-laden career together. Musically, they play freely with genre here in order to express their vision fully, resulting in a rather diverse-sounding set of songs. Between the Afrobeats-informed vibes of “aiaiaiaiai,” the slowed-down reggaetón of “AMAPOLA,” and the shimmering bachata of “Diamantes,” they offer up surprises and delights throughout. That approach becomes even more evident once the guests begin to arrive. Kapo adds his melodic signature to “Te Quiero” and Lia Kali similarly contributes her memorable vocals to the balladic “Líos,” while salsa veteran Marc Anthony helps the brothers soar on the penultimate track “Recordando.”
