Ataraxia

Ataraxia

Allt’s 2024 full-length debut From the New World imagined a post-apocalyptic scenario in which survivors navigate the collapse of society. On Ataraxia, the Swedish progressive metalcore squad turns inward. Just as the title is an ancient Greek term for serenity, the album’s lyrical themes focus on the search for inner peace. On opener “New Day” and single “Omertà,” chameleonic vocalist Robin Malmgren effortlessly shifts from animal roar to smooth cleans while at times employing an almost Eminem-esque hip-hop delivery. Guitarists Olle Nordström and Viktor Florman saw off alternately thudding and spiraling djent riffs on “Nevermind” and “Ultraviolence” while drummer Adam Björk hammers out mechanized beats. “Snowblind” and closer “Avalon” serve as the album’s ballads, the latter exploding in guitar squalls and sky-bound synths.
