This three-pack from Brad Paisley is part of an ongoing project the country superstar calls “Tacklebox,” for which the Grammy-winning singer and guitar-slinger will periodically drop new music. “Tacklebox”—so named because, like a fishing tacklebox, the collection is full of hooks—will pull together a range of songs from Paisley’s multi-decade career, including previously unrecorded material from his salad days as an aspiring artist in the ’90s as well as newly written tunes. Paisley opens this installment with its title track “Without You,” a melodic ballad that would have been at home on an early-career Alan Jackson record. “This Town Ain’t Small Enough” seems to take issue with Paisley’s Nashville hometown as he side-eyes Music City’s unchecked, increasingly unlivable growth with lyrics like “Crime is high and traffic sucks/A place to park costs 30 bucks.” Paisley closes out the trio by digging deep into his vault to find “Fallin’,” a ’90s-era ballad with tender lyrics and appropriately dramatic production.
