Tank Full of Blues

Doubling down on the blues in which he’s dabbled since the ’60s, New York native Dion DiMucci reminds us that he’s just as compelling a guitarist as he is a singer. This focused 2012 set lodges his gritty swagger in a lean, no-frills trio: The cathartic “You Keep Me Cryin’” rides a palpably smoky groove, while “Holly Brown” nails a devotional romantic slither. And after shout-outs to Robert Johnson and Rolling Stone, Dion salutes both hip-hop and God on the closing spoken-word reflection, “Bronx Poem.”
