Two brothers out of Queens, Uppanotch have been recording for several years, releasing their impressive debut full-length, No Greater Love, back in 2006 on X-Ray's Mindbenda Recordings label. Known for intelligent and positive lyricism set to mellow NYC production, Danon and Hosannah keep raising the bar for Gotham State underground hip-hop. On 11, they enlist a crew of up-and-coming producers, including Pushakey, Shakim Allah, and Kiza, to provide the smooth and soulful sonic backdrops, mixed with eclectic samples from the likes of This Is Spinal Tap and Sesame Street. Smart without being too brainy, low-key but never soft, the wordplay here is relatable and from the heart. Highlights include the breezy synth vibe of "I Work Hard," the hard-knocking "Rare Form," the live instrumentation-assisted autobiographical jam "Invincible," and "Capitalism," a thought-provoking breakdown of the current economic recession.
