Fujiya & Miyagi’s music slinks like a cat on the prowl, and on Ventriloquizzing their moves are stealthier than ever. The title track makes good on their longtime krautrock fascination with a motorik groove that builds almost imperceptibly to a throbbing synthesizer climax, while “Sixteen Shades of Black & Blue” offers a hushed update to glam rock’s shuffle. David Best’s purr has never sounded more seductive—nor as sinister—than it does here, singing cryptically of stilettos and sequins on the hypnotic “Tinsel & Glitter.”
