The same year that his duo, Motorbass, released their iconic album, Pansoul, Etienne de Crécy gave French house another stone classic with Super Discount, a chilled affair featuring contributions from Air and Alex Gopher. A mixture of filter-disco and Chicago house, not unlike Daft Punk, rubs up against laidback soul, easy-listening kitsch, smoke-friendly reggae samples, and scraps of movie dialogue, all wrapped up in the language of a going-out-of-business sale. "Prix choc" remains an irresistible floor-filler, but the bulk of the album is squarely aimed at late nights on the sofa.
