DOSIS

DOSIS

A sophomore set reflecting growth in both artistry and status. By the time his album NEXT dropped in 2024, Xavi was clearly an artist whose peak had yet to come. The viral singles that preceded that full-length debut and the songs that followed made for a burgeoning discography for the Mexican American rising star. Arriving roughly a year and a half later, his sophomore set DOSIS reflects his growth both musically as well as in overall stature. Demonstrably more collaborative than its predecessor, the project includes a veritable who’s who of música mexicana leading lights to shine alongside his own. From the embittered “Cartier” with Gabito Ballesteros to the romantically persuasive “Buenota” with Luis R Conriquez, he proves to be a versatile studio partner to his fellow stars. Making moves somewhere between lothario and lover boy, he flexes for the ladies with Codiciado’s assistance on the boastful “Se Me Amanece” and pitches woo to a beautiful woman alongside Carín León on “La Morrita.” The corrido team-ups hit that sweet spot, too, notably on “SRT” with Fuerza Regida and the vividly conveyed “San Charly” with Esau Ortiz and Alan Arrieta. Still, he’s willing to experiment within his chosen genre, infusing refreshingly tropical and Afrobeats elements on “En Privado” and “Bien Pedos” with the help of Manuel Turizo and Kapo, respectively. And as those who recall his initial run already know, Xavi doesn’t specifically require guests or features to make a good impression. His solo moments here vacillate between the melancholic toxicity of the opening title track and the exuberance of “Miami,” capping things off with the rare English-language track “Find Us Again.”
