Argentine MC Trueno deserves credit for the co-signs he’s logged in recent years, a prestigious list that includes DJ Premier, Gorillaz, and Young Miko. Going from underground freestyle rap battles to major awards nominations can do that for an artist of his caliber, especially one who exhibits as much reverence for the culture as he did on 2024’s EL ÚLTIMO BAILE. And while he remains hip-hop to his core, his fourth album TURR4ZO demonstrates that his talents transcend genre conventions as he experiments and explores outside of perceived bounds. From the merengue house throwback “X UNAS LLANTAS” to the tropical and polyrhythmic “URUGUAY,” his bars and flows secure his spot in the rap game. To his credit, he can go from boisterous and cocksure on cuts like “CON EL COMBO” and the gratifying “DELIVERY FREESTYLE” to vulnerable and thankful on the more personal “RAIN IV.” Yet he still manages to surprise with “90s,” a retro pop duet with no less than Maria Becerra.
