Roses

Roses

The long-running, laidback NYC duo find new energy abroad. Over the course of almost two decades, the duo of Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas have been chronicling the sounds, styles, and scenes of New York City as Widowspeak. For their inventive seventh album, they relocated to Hydra, Greece, to record Roses, which brims with the discovery and wonder of time abroad. “No Driver” builds around a guitar line that sounds like it could fit in an old Western soundtrack. “Soft Cover” is a new twist on a style Widowspeak has become celebrated for over the years, blending elements of DIY rock with the West Coast garage and surf rock that became popular in San Francisco in the mid-2000s. Hamilton and Thomas bring their own spin to the style, infusing the song—and the record as a whole—with the laidback cool that informs their best work.
