It's Us Vol. 2

When we last heard from Lil Yachty’s Concrete Boys, the collective seemed in a state of flux. After some lineup shuffling, the fan-friendly fivestarcrete stopgap EP, and a deluge of Lil Boat singles largely without the crew, they return in robust fashion with the second installment of their succinctly titled It’s Us. The ultramodern aesthetic cultivated and curated on their group debut persists here, as Draft Day, Camo!, Dc2trill, and Honest level up to the benefit of all involved. Setting it off with the boisterous “CRETE CYPHER INTRO,” they cement their dynamic on gripping posse cuts like the creepy-crawling “3 SYRUPS” and the showstopping “MILLIONAIRE.” On the groovy ’80s throwback "IF I WASN’T RAPPIN’,” Dc2trill and Draft Day go bar-for-bar with Yachty as they speak on loyalty and flex with confidence. With Michigan rap breakout Veeze in tow, they collectively body the righteously rowdy “ONE TIME.” The members get individual spotlight moments, too. Still fairly new to the unit, Honest demonstrates precisely what he brings to the Concrete Boys on the booming “285.” Dc2trill leans on classic trap with a laidback Texan drawl for “WEIGH MY OPTIONS,” while Draft Day dexterously rasps his way through the R&B-inflected “TRUST ME” at a rapid clip. It’s Camo!, however, who all but dominates the project’s back half, delivering narcotized charm on late highlights “RACE TO AN M” and “TOP OPTION BOYZ,” the latter with DontKallMeLuxxy. Of course, Yachty stays omnipotently ever-present over these proceedings, even slipping in ostensible solo tracks like “COKE WHITE” and the Veeze team-up “ALL THE SAME.”
