It’s extremely rare for a record to receive a second deluxe release, but This Is Lorelei’s Box for Buddy, Box for Star has accrued a unique staying power since its initial release in 2024. The breakthrough album from Nate Amos—also one half of the Brooklyn weirdo-pop outfit Water From Your Eyes—showcased his off-kilter but immediately appealing approach to multiple variants of indie rock songwriting, drawing a big tent of admirers by way of his prismatic sonic stylings. This expanded edition of Box for Buddy, Box for Star showcases more than a few of Amos’ famous fans taking a shot at his indelible tunes, from Hayley Williams’ new group Power Snatch and indie rock scion Snail Mail to rootsier contemporaries like Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman. Even Amos’ father Bob and sister Sarah—who also regularly record and perform as a bluegrass duo—throw in with a lovely take on “Angel’s Eye.”
