Those who recall Brick Squad Monopoly’s peak years will immediately welcome what he brings to this effort, a trap-centric set that speaks to his city’s past with plenty of present-day energy. He is relentless from start to finish, beginning with the profane single “Shit I Like” and ending with the bass-heavy Ronny J blowout “Blah Blah.” With the help of experienced producers including Southside and TM88, he sounds as vibrant and boisterous as ever on cuts like “King Killa” and “Felons.” Towards the end of “The Belt,” Waka shouts out local luminaries like DJ Spinz and the 808 Mafia membership, reinforcing the genuinely sincere intentions of this veritable homecoming.
