Alex Preston kicks off this exclusive mix with his deliciously funky single “By the Hour,” built around a sample from one of his formative musical idols. “I grew up listening to George Benson and saw him live here at the State Theatre in Sydney when I was 16,” he tells Apple Music. “I used to try and remake his songs on my Fostex eight-track recorder with my guitar and drum machine, so to be able to sample ‘Turn Your Love Around’ and do a modern take on it is extremely special.” The track sets the tone for the rest of his set, which includes equally vibrant beats from Ferreck Dawn, Adelphi Music Factory, CHANEY, and more: “I tried to select tracks that evoke similar feels and great eclectic grooves that I’m absolutely loving at the moment to keep the energy and the vibes high!”
