Detroit legend Brian Kage dropped the pumping Fire Emoji EP with Scottish deep-house pioneer Milton Jackson on Freerange Records in May 2025. To mark the occasion, Kage has put together this mix of tracks from all over the world that evokes the soulful and uplifting spirit of his home city’s scene. “I pulled together some Detroit soul, some collabs I’m proud of—and house and techy joints that hit just right,” Kage tells Apple Music. “Shout-out to Freerange Records for keeping things real and for the inspiration!” And the tracks do hit just right, with Kage getting down to business straightaway with Magnetic Family’s “North Circular” and rolling through cuts by Reykjavik producer Intr0beatz, French powerhouse Dj Steaw, and more, before ending the mix on a melodic, flute-laden high with his own “909 Nights.”
