Trustn God - EP

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Camidoh has been working his way toward the heightened sense of enlightenment he displays on Trustn God since at least his breakthrough single, 2021’s “Sugarcane.” The song’s success—and multitude of remixes—elevated him from the Ghanaian underground to a position of prominence in the Afropop scene. He’d shape the experience thereafter into 2023’s A Lifetime Is Not Enough, an album that blurred the line between embracing the supersized nature of stardom and his desire to find inner peace. Trustn God then—as its title implies—is Camidoh’s latest epiphany. The gospel-tinged follow-up to 2023’s sprawling L.I.TA plays as his most vulnerable project yet, highlighting the redemptive nature of his faith and the ensuing perseverance that keeps him grounded. The EP leans on gospel arrangements and choral compositional structures to buttress his message and songs like “Ayekoo” and “They Know I’m Blessed,” built on swirling harmonies and abstracted percussion, present as an audacious retelling of his come-up story. For all his surrender to the divine, though, Camidoh is still intimately aware of the world in which he exists and the demands of his position. “Many, many things wan kill my spirit,” he earnestly shares on “Many Many Things.” “But they can’t hold me back, oh.”
