“I wanted to capture the essence of positivity, joy, and love that define the celebrations,” OCEAN LAM tells Apple Music. A longtime resident DJ at Hong Kong’s renowned OMA club, the artist also tours widely in Europe and Asia, and draws on that cosmopolitan experience in her work. “I want to bring a diverse vibe from across the world channeled through my personal style and attitude—and make the audience feel as great as I do when I play,” she says. In her own original material, Lam gives herself free rein to explore specific moods and feelings, but always keeps in mind how crowds will react on the dance floor. Of course, she has a different crowd in mind for her Lunar New Year DJ mix: “I tailored this mix to bring an extra party spark and atmosphere for these traditional festive activities—at dinner, in the kitchen, or at the mahjong table!” Where live performances feed off of the crowd’s positive energy, working at home allows her to explore a mellower side. “And I get to use my favorite club gear in the studio,” she adds. “My trusty pair of Pioneer CDJ-2000NXS2 multi players and the warm and punchy sounding Allen & Heath Xone:96 mixer.”
