The fellow experimental musicians also happen to be best friends, having met through the noise-rock scene in their hometown of San Antonio. The pair are nearly as prolific in their collaborations as they are in their respective solo careers, and as wide-ranging: Their 2021 joint album, An Afternoon Whine, played out like AutoTuned ASMR, while 2022’s Never Stop Texting Me took a tongue-in-cheek stab at hyperpop. On no floor, More Eaze and claire rousay apply their sonic-collage mastery to craft their own vision of pastoral Americana—a gorgeously melancholy ode to the mundane places of their youth, with track titles named for various sites of shared debauchery (including “the applebees outside kalamazoo, michigan”). Here, the duo eschewed field recordings for live instrumentation, from rousay’s acoustic-guitar pathos to More Eaze’s nostalgic pedal steel, giving tracks like “hopfields” the warmth of a Texas sunset.
