Terri Clark: Take Two

Terri Clark: Take Two

Terri Clark is a pillar of ’90s country, notching a string of hits from the middle of the decade through the early aughts and remaining a pivotal figure in the genre since. Her 1995 self-titled debut still serves as an influence for contemporary artists, so it’s not surprising that the Canadian singer-songwriter might want to connect the dots between generations nearly three decades after that album’s release. On Terri Clark: Take Two, Clark taps some of the genre’s best and brightest to bring some of her biggest hits to a new audience. Highlights on the eight-song project include the Lainey Wilson collaboration “Poor, Poor Pitiful Me,” a 1996 Just the Same cut with enough wit and sass for both firebrand singers to shine. Cody Johnson joins Clark on “I Just Wanna Be Mad,” the opening track from Clark’s 2003 release Pain to Kill and an excellent song to rework as a duet. Kelly Clarkson brings her powerhouse voice to “If I Were You,” a melodic ballad infused with the kind of hard-earned wisdom befitting such a seasoned guest. And Ashley McBryde joins the fun on “Better Things to Do,” another debut cut and one of Clark’s finest and fieriest kiss-offs.
